How to Reset Your Mind and Body Before Fall
Summer is slowly winding down (although in Austin Texas, it doesn’t actually feel like Fall until November!), and as the season shifts, it’s the perfect time to pause and gently reset - both your mind, body (and spirit) before the hustle and bustle of Fall arrives.
It’s also the perfect moment to set a few simple intentions for the season ahead - whether that’s finishing a creative project, starting something new, or just carving out space to feel more peaceful, radiant and present this upcoming season.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just plain tired lately, you’re not alone. The good news? You don’t need a grand overhaul to hit that reset button. Sometimes, the simplest practices and rituals can make the biggest difference and make you feel so energized and ready for a new season ahead.
Here are some of my favorite, gentle ways to reset and refresh before the fall season.
1. CHECK IN WITH YOUR BODY
Like it or not, your body holds the answers to SO MUCH (but we often default to our minds). Before the hectic pace picks up again, take a moment each day to tune into your body (whether in the morning or in the evening - whatever feels most supportive). Notice where you feel tension, fatigue, or ease. Small body-based practices like deep breathing, gentle stretching, or grounding your feet on the earth can help release built-up stress and tension.
Try this: Sit quietly for 3 minutes and simply observe your breath. No need to change it - just notice the pace and how it feels.
2. CREATE SPACE TO FEEL YOUR EMOTIONS
It’s okay to feel all the emotions at the same time (new seasons can bring up A LOT) - the joy, stress, excitement, uncertainty, etc. Rather than pushing feelings away, try inviting them in with curiosity and kindness. Notice what comes up, and allow yourself a moment to process it and always remember - it is totally okay and so human to feel different, contrasting emotions at the same time.
3. RESET YOUR ENERGY WITH SEASONAL TOUCHES
Sometimes our environment subtly affects our energy, and small shifts can help you feel lighter, calmer, and more aligned for the season ahead. Swapping out a few everyday elements can make a surprising difference. Below are some of my favorite ways to reset my environment for the new season.
Try this:
Light a seasonal candle or burn incense to create a cozy, grounded atmosphere ( I love using incense to “cleanse” and reset my entire space)
Bring in fall-inspired decor - think warm textures, autumn colors, or natural elements
Swap out linens or pillows to refresh your personal spaces
Open windows or add fresh air to invite new energy into your home
Even these small, intentional changes can help reset your energy and make your space feel more supportive as you step into fall.
4. MAP OUT YOUR SEASON WITH INTENTION
Now that you’re feeling more grounded mind, body, and spirit, it’s a great time to use that new season energy to map out the rest of the year with intention. Taking 20-30 minutes to jot down your priorities, map a creative project, or sketch a simple weekly routine can make you feel more grounded and focused for what matters next.
Try this: Write down your top 3 priorities for fall, and notice how your body feels when you think about each one. Excited? Tense? Energized? Let your awareness guide what you commit to.
